INDEPENDENT Member for Lyne Robert Oakeshott said anyone suggesting the E10 mandate was supported by all sides of politics in the NSW Parliament is wrong and the Hansard record proves it.
“I was opposed to an E10 mandate in the state parliament, and I am opposed to an E10 mandate now.
“I recall at least two debates on the E10 mandate that took place in the NSW Parliament over the past decade, and my recollection is there was a great deal of division on this issue, plenty of allegations of vested interests and party donations, and this now seems to be coming home to roost,” Mr Oakeshott said.
“This mandate will increase fuel prices in NSW and the independent consumer body, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, has warned of the potential for a significant impact on consumers.
“In the first debate, I did not support the E10 mandate, and in the second debate in 2009 there also was division on the floor of the Parliament.
“The ACCC advice made public today is compelling. It suggests an evidence trail that other factors have been in play for some time, and the best interests of consumers at the bowser have been ignored by successive NSW governments of both political colours.
“It is now up to both major parties to explain what those other factors have been that have seen ACCC advice ignored,” Mr Oakeshott said.
