THE NIGHT- RIDER IS BACK FOR PORT MACQUARIE!
No, it's not David Hasselhoff, it's a $21,000 grant from the State Attorney-General's Department to allow for the Night-Rider bus service to operate over the summer period throughout the Port Macquarie CBD, announced Robert Oakeshott, Independent MP for Port Macquarie.
"This is an important service that, over the summer months, will provide for a much safer CBD area during this busy period. It is a welcome crime prevention program, Mr Oakeshott said.
"It will also provide revellers with a safe, accessible alternative to driving their vehicles, if they are planning a night out in town, which will certainly lead to our local roads being safer.
"Particularly on busy nights like New Years Eve, getting home from the CBD can be extremely difficult. This bus will help move people out of town more quickly, meaning they, and the CBD area will be safer as a result, Mr Oakeshott said.
"This grant comes through the Attorney-General Departments Crime Prevention Grants, and has support from the local Council, as well as the local private sector, Mr Oakeshott said today.
"I welcome this grant, and urge people to use this bus service, as well as the local taxi service, over the coming summer months. Basically, there is now no excuse whatsoever to drink and drive, Mr Oakeshott said.
