PARLIAMENTARY MEETING FOR LOCAL ALZHEIMER'S ADVOCATE

Independent Member for Port Macquarie, Robert Oakeshott, held talks in Parliament House recently with local Alzheimer's advocate, Margaret Allen, to discuss issues concerning both Alzheimer's and dementia from a state and local perspective.

"Margaret is a strong advocate for Alzheimer's and dementia support services throughout NSW and currently operates the only shop-front office in NSW for Alzheimer's support, which is located in Gordon Street, Port Macquarie, Mr Oakeshott said.

" The meeting was very productive and a greater focus on promoting awareness of Alzheimer's throughout the community was highlighted, an illness which has a great impact on a sufferer's broader circle of family and friends.

"Issues surrounding the Home and Community Care Centre, whose location is currently being considered by Council, were also discussed, including funding commitments from the State Government for the centre." Mr Oakeshott said.

For anyone wishing to obtain further information about Alzheimer's, please contact Margaret on 1300 791 751 or drop in to the office at Shop 2, 146-150 Gordon Street, Port Macquarie.
