OAKESHOTT INDEPENDENT
OXLEY HIGHWAY - STAGE ONE BEGINS
Independent MP for Port Macquarie, Robert Oakeshott, today welcomed the commencement of construction of the Oxley Highway upgrade, with Stage One of the works beginning this week.
"This week, construction will commence on the Wrights Road roundabout at the eastern end of the Oxley Highway upgrade at Port Macquarie, Mr Oakeshott said.
"Apart from being a key access point for traffic along the new section of highway, the existing highway and the hospital entrance, the roundabout will also enable a safer and more efficient access point for the construction of the remainder of Stage One work.
"Stage one of the upgrade will stretch from Wrights Road to the proposed cross-over bridge near Phillip Charley Drive and will include the construction of a temporary westbound connection at the cross-over of the existing highway.
"The eastbound entry ramp from the existing highway will also be constructed as part of Stage One, for eastbound access to the new road.
Both the roundabout and cross-over bridge are due to be completed early in 2009, Mr Oakeshott said.
