OAKESHOTT WELCOMES FULL AND OPEN DISCUSSION WITH COMMUNITY
Independent MP for Port Macquarie, Robert Oakeshott, today accepted the offer from the Department of Lands to be a member of the newly formed Foreshore Lands Advisory Group, and looks forward to the first meeting.
Mr Oakeshott also welcomes the announcement of the preferred option of Ariadne Marinas for the Port Macquarie foreshore site, next to the marina, currently lease-managed by the same company.
"Obviously I would have preferred this announcement sooner, and would have preferred greater community engagement up to this point. However, that is all hindsight now, and I am very pleased we can now have an open, full and deep discussion about the proposal as put forward by Ariadne Marinas, Mr Oakeshott said.
"I will be very interested to receive community views on the $6.3 million of public infrastructure attached to the proposal, including the expanded four-lane boatramp, the increased trailer parking space, and expanded playground for children, and the landscaping and toilets for Westport Park, Mr Oakeshott said.
"I will also be interested in community views on the dry-dock facility, the walkways both through the marina and around the marina including the suspension bridge, as well as the restaurant facility and the floating pontoons - both public and private, said Mr Oakeshott.
"I am just so pleased we can now, as a community, start to undertake a full cost/benefit analysis of the project, and I encourage as many people as possible to have a look and to be engaged in this project, and to consider the $6.3 million of public expenditure as part of their overall thinking of whether this is a project that fits the direction our town is heading. I am very keen for feedback, Mr Oakeshott said today.
