OAKESHOTT SUPPORTS FIRIES CALL FOR "SPRING CLEAN" ON ALL LOCAL HOMES

The "top tips" guide from the NSW Fire Brigade on minimising fires at home is a welcome reminder for everyone as we head into the warmer months, Independent MP for Port Macquarie, Robert Oakeshott said today.

"This is a simple, practical and timely guide for all of us to follow on how to avoid unwanted fire damage in and around our homes, Mr Oakeshott said.

"Apart from tips to avoid fires in and around our homes, there are also practical reminders of our legal obligation to make sure that smoke alarms are installed in every home. Now is the time to confirm that you have a smoke alarm in your house, and that the alarm you have is actually working, Mr Oakeshott said.

"The guide also provides a few basic tips on spring cleaning your home to fire-proof it, a few BBQ safety tips, and reminders about total fire bans starting from the 1st October, said Mr Oakeshott.

"I encourage everyone to have a look at the NSW Fire Brigades website at www.fire.nsw.gov.au for further household tips on preventing fires. Now, with spring upon us, is the time to be fire aware once more, Mr Oakeshott said today.
