OAKESHOTT ANNOUNCES THE AUSTRALIAN LONGBOARD TITLES FOR PORT MACQUARIE IN 2007, 2008, AND 2009
Following a three-year funding package from the NSW Major Events Board, as well as commitments from other key partners such as Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Independent MP for Port Macquarie Robert Oakeshott today announced the Australian Longboard Surf Titles will be held in Port Macquarie for at least the following three years.
"This event attracts approximately 400 competitors to the 7 day event and Surfing NSW anticipates another 300-400 people travelling with the competitors, Mr Oakeshott said.
"This will provide approximately 5,000 bed nights or an estimated direct economic impact of $700,000 to the local economy, said Mr Oakeshott
"The dates for this year are the 22nd-28th October, with the dates for 2008 and 2009 still to be confirmed, said Mr Oakeshott.
"A big thank you to the NSW Major Events Board for their assistance, as well as Surfing NSW, and other key partners such as Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Mr Oakeshott said.
"Along with the Australian Ironman in early April, the powerboats in July, the touch football in early December, and the Country Surf Championships in January, this will sit very well as another key event on our growing sport calendar, with this particular event well placed in a shoulder tourism period so as to maximise assistance to the local tourism industry, said Mr Oakeshott.
