OAKESHOTT ANNOUNCES $190,000 FOR REGIONAL SPORTS PRECINCT

Independent MP for Port Macquarie, Robert Oakeshott, today announced $190,000 of state funding for the Regional Sports Stadium in Port Macquarie.

"I am pleased the government has approved this money, and it will help push the Regional Stadium to the next level in creating a regional sports precinct, Mr Oakeshott said.

"This money will primarily go to the completion of the second playing field next to the Stadium, and the creation of a footbridge linking Tuffins Lane with the Regional Stadium grounds, Mr Oakeshott said.

"This will mean events such as the State Cup, school-based sports carnivals, and other high participation events will be able to sensibly combine their feature games on the main ground, with the pool games on Tuffins Lane, and this also presents yet another opportunity to further attract events to the local area, said Mr Oakeshott.

"This money comes on the back of a sensible strategy by the local community over the past four years. We have seen the creation of a Sports Taskforce, we have seen the appointment of a Sports Development Officer, and $300,000 a year has been allocated to local sporting clubs over the past three years for the improvement of their local facilities, Mr Oakeshott said.

"This has all meant that chasing money out of the State Government for events such as the Australian Ironman has been easier, with $50,000 a year for the next four years for this event alone, said Mr Oakeshott.

"I hope this $190,000 allows for the finishing of the job at the Regional Stadium precinct, and I look forward to a seeing more events at this expanded venue into the future, Mr Oakeshott said today.
