GOOD NEWS FOR THE 48TH REGIMENT AND THEIR GUNS

Independent MP for Port Macquarie Robert Oakeshott today formally thanked the Minister for Police, David Campbell MP, for permanently waiving the permit fee for the 48th Regiment of Foot Re-enactment Group Inc.

"The 48th Regiment Re-enactment Group has become as much a part of the history of Port Macquarie as the original. They participate in just about every event of significance in town, Mr Oakeshott said.

"The 48th was being financially burdened with a fee for every re-enactment event they participated in. As a particularly active group, these fees were adding up to a fair bit of money, Mr Oakeshott said.

"I am therefore pleased that the Firearms Registry has advised that they have amended the procedures relating to groups like the 48th and will no longer be seeking a fee each time a permit is changed, said Mr Oakeshott.

"This is pleasing news for the 48th, and pleasing news for town. They are a great bunch of very active participants in Port Macquarie life, and it is only fair that the Government encourages them, rather than puts a tax on them for being so active, Mr Oakeshott said today
