$150,000 FOR COASTAL WALK

Independent MP for Port Macquarie, Robert Oakeshott, today welcomed the $150,000 grant from the State Government to help fund the Coastal Walkway from Town Beach to the Lighthouse.

"Of all the projects going on at present, this is the one that will have the longest-lasting impact on the community for health, well-being, and for tourism, Mr Oakeshott said today.

"It is vitally important that the planners get this right, and that the cheap option is not the over-riding influence. Rather, the principle driving this project should be 'let's do this once, and do it right', Mr Oakeshott said.

"The State has invested heavily, $3.9 million worth, in purchasing the two Windmill Hill houses. That is now proving to be an important investment as we start to unlock this walkway and make it a feature piece of our community, said Mr Oakeshott.

"This extra $150,000 from the state will assist in driving the next stage of the project connecting Windmill Hill through to Flynns Beach. It is a project that, when completed, will surprise many people by the amount of daily use this share-way will attract, said Mr Oakeshott.

"And it is important that we get as much foot traffic and bike traffic off Pacific Drive as possible. This will prove to be the key factor in the success of the project," Mr Oakeshott said.
